Quinta de Santa Leocadea...

Beyond the Legend

Quinta de Santa Leocadea is a property located in the old parish of Santa Leocadea de Pedra Furada, in the municipality of Barcelos, in the heart of the Vinhos Verdes demarcated region.

The parish, Santa Leocadea de Pedra Furada, is associated with a legend according to which Santa Leocadea, after being martyred, was buried alive and ascended to heaven by breaking the stone that covered her grave. This stone still exists in the churchyard of the parish church and in front of Quinta de Santa Leocadea.

This legend is also the inspiration for this oenological project because, like a legend, a good wine also tells a story. And in a good story, just like in a legend, there’s always something new to add, depending on the moment and who’s listening.

Vinho Verde DOP is produced in the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region in the north-west of Portugal, an area traditionally known as Entre-Douro-e-Minho. Its northern boundaries are the River Minho, which forms the natural border with Galicia; to the east and south, mountainous areas that form the natural separation between the Atlantic Entre-Douro-e-Minho and the more inland Mediterranean regions of the country; and to the west, the Atlantic Ocean.

As the technology used in its production is extremely simple, our wine can be considered a straightforward product with no technological gimmicks. The statement “the wine is what the vineyard that produces it is” has never been truer, resulting in wines that are unique in the world.
